Blendon Township, Ottawa County Michigan is currently accepting applications for a Full-time Level III Assessor. Blendon Township is a rapidly growing community in West Michigan.  Once an active farming community, it is moving quickly towards an active bedroom community with many new single family developments and homes being constructed.  Located just 15 min west of Grand Rapids and 15 minutes from the shores of Lake Michigan, it has become a destination for urban dwelling with strong school systems and larger tracts of open space.  The ideal candidate will be someone willing to take on the challenges of a growing community, a willingness to listen, and a heart to make this community a better place.  The ideal candidate will join a smaller office staff and should possess a willingness (when available) to jump in and assist with other tasks/duties to work as a team.  Projected growth over the next 10 years could be close to 40-50%.

Blendon Township has 3100 parcels (real & personal) and a Taxable value of $264 Million

Qualifications:

  • MCAO Level III certification minimum
  • Experience using BS & A assessing software
  • Knowledgeable in the Michigan Land Division act and proficient in processing land divisions
  • Ability to maintain routine records and prepare reports
  • Maintains a valid Michigan Driver’s License
  • Capacity to communicate and listen effectively
  • Ability to keep regularly scheduled office hours
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the assessing field
  • Preference given to those with a college degree

Job Description includes:

  • Conducting Field inspections and updating property records
  • Process Land Divisions in coordination with township Zoning Administrator
  • Attend in person all Board of Review meetings including the organizational meetings
  • The applicant must have experience with all aspects of assessing and work to keep the township in compliance with AMAR standards, prepare MTT responses, and respond to inquiries from the public. Ability and willingness to work cordially with our residents is a must. Applicant should be familiar with the Land Division approval process and be fluent with legal descriptions. The assessor also works closely with the treasurer to ensure we stay balanced through the year and assists finance in special assessments.
